WEEZY JEFFERSON

So please tell us who you are and what you do!

‘I’m Weezy Jefferson, a Leeds-based artist and music producer.’

Where’s your favourite place to write?

‘I like to write at home mostly: I record voice notes as demos to familiarise myself with what I’ve written and then take it to the studio, once I’m comfortable with it, to create the finished product!’

When did you first start performing?

‘I did my first performance at around 13. It was a rap competition called ‘Broken Beats’ at my local community centre: I was super nervous to be on stage and spat all of my bars, but didn’t have much confidence in terms of stage presence! I came third in the competition and I focused on improving on my performance, returned the following year and my performance was much better!’

Who are your main creative influences?

‘Creatively, I draw inspiration from everywhere. Artists like Cuban Link, Big Pun, Xzibit, Black Rob, Lloyd Banks, Cormega and Dr Dree influenced me a lot early on and a group called The Movement inspired me a lot as I got older. Local artists have always inspired me, like Ntantu, Dialect , Kash, 90s and J.O. and production-wise, 9th Wonder, Low Deep, DTM, J.A.M. Alamak, J Bravo and Araabmuzik! I really enjoy music from a range of genres, but hip hop is my fave!’

What are you working on at the moment?

‘Currently, I’m working on some singles and features, which will be released soon! I’m enjoying taking the time to write and produce as well as getting to work with some great artists and producers & look forward to sharing the new music!’
